High schoolers fight tobacco

Students from Thompson High School and Chelsea Middle School are taking a stand against youth tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke.

In support of Tobacco Free Kids National Youth Tobacco Prevention Day, the Shelby County Coalition for Safe and Drug Free Communities along with these students held &8220;Cigarette Butt Cleanup&8221; at Wal-Mart in Alabaster and Winn-Dixie in Chelsea on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Also, on March 28 at 9:30 a.m. Karamie Barksdale, with the Shelby County Coalition for Safe and Drug Free Communities, will present infant t-shirts to all newborns for that day at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. The t-shirts will promote Kick Butts Day and youth tobacco prevention. Ms. Barksdale will be available to speak with parents about the dangers of smoke exposure
