Opening day of Little League baseball in Helena was highlighted by community support for the father of one little league player.

A benefit raffle held Saturday for Officer Craig Knight raised more than $2400.

Connie Green is a resident of Helena and family friend of the Knights. She said community members felt a need to let Knight know that people in the area are thinking of him and his family.

&8220;He&8217;s really doing well but still can&8217;t walk,&8221; Knight said. &8220;So, we just really want to help his family any way that we can.&8221;

Knight broke his pelvis in a motorcycle accident in October of 2006 and has been working to recover since then. The officer was pulling out of the parking lot of the Helena baseball complex when the accident happened. The accident forced Knight to take the past few months off work to attend physical therapy sessions.

Community members raffled off items including gift certificates to San Antonio Grill, a bat from Bases Loaded, items from Helena Florist and other prizes.

In all, the raffle brought in around $1,200, while an anonymous donor contributed an additional $1200, to bring the total up to $2,400.
