Members of the Montevallo Study Club met Tuesday night to discuss the upcoming University of Montevallo opera, The Magic Flute.
Susan Fulmer and her mother, Augusta Lovelady, served as hostesses for the event as UM professor of music Charles Wood gave insight into the upcoming Mozart masterpiece.
The Magic Flute tells the story of Prince Tamino as he tries to rescue Princess Pamina from High Priest Sarastro. Most people consider the priest to be evil, but he is really only trying to save Pamina from her wicked mother, the Queen of the Night.
Accompanying Tamino on his quest is a simple but likeable bird catcher, Papageno. The cast also includes other charming and mysterious characters including the guard Monostatos, the Queen&8217;s three attendants, and some benevolent spirits.
The opera will run March 29-31 at LeBaron Recital Hall on the UM campus. All tickets are $5.
The Magic Flute is suitable for children and adults alike. For more information, contact the UM Music Department at 665-6670
