&8220;That was pretty much the difference. To come out and jump on them early is real big and that&8217;s something we haven&8217;t been good at doing,&8221; Chelsea coach Russell McCartey said.
Stephanie Hollis started the scoring for the Lady Hornets with a two-run double followed by an RBI single by Lindsey Pruett and sacrifice by Haley Barnhill. Johnna Barnes then drove in two more runs with a base hit to give the Lady Hornets a 6-1 lead.
Montevallo took the lead in the top of the first, 1-0, when Whittney Farrington scored on an error at third base. Chelsea stretched their lead to 7-1 with an RBI single from Anna Cox in the third inning, but the Lady Bulldogs bounced back with an RBI double by Kayla Irwin in the fourth and an RBI by Cloe Jones in the fifth, to cut the game to four runs. Chelsea added a run in the bottom of the fifth, while Montevallo added one in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Tori Hollis collected the complete game win, allowing two earned runs off eight hits.
