More than 60 lady golfers took place in the Pelham Lady Panthers Invitational girls golf tournament last Wednesday at Ballantrae Golf Club in Pelham.

Haley Wilson of Central-Phenix City led the field to finish two over par at 74, while Mountain Brook&8217;s Betsy Birchall&8217;s 79 helped the Spartans edge Auburn 250-254, to win the team event.

Ashley Lovell of Spain Park led all Shelby County golfers with a 76.

&8220;I was four over through four holes, and I was like, &8216;I need to pull it together,&8217; and I ended up paring the whole back nine… It was an interesting day,&8221; Lovell said.

The Lady Jaguars were without other top golfer Hannah Collier, who was participating in a qualifying round for the Mizuno Junior tournament in Braselton, Ga.

&8220;I was disappointed that she couldn&8217;t be with us, but I understand that&8217;s part of what she does, and I&8217;m supporting her on that,&8221; said head coach Kelly Holland.

Oak Mountain led the county teams with a fifth place score of 275, while Spain Park was sixth at 277. Pelham scored a 298, while Thompson shot 343.

Spain Park, who won a tournament at Coosa Pines two weeks ago and is 3-1 in match play, went on to edge Prattville for second place at the Vestavia Invitational Monday at Highland Park.

Collier shot a 72, followed by Lovell&8217;s 73, to help lead the team to a 240 score. They defeated Prattville in a head-to-head playoff on the10th hole, a par four. The Lady Jaguars collected three pars, while Prattville had a par and two bogeys in the playoff
