Brown indicted on misdemeanor theft
Former Columbiana Police Chief Johnny Brown has been indicted on two counts of misdemeanor theft, according to the Chief Deputy District Attorney Bill Bostick.
Brown turned himself in on Friday and was released on $10,000 bond.
Bostick said the charges stem from a Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s Office investigation and involved two alleged thefts from the Columbiana Chevron and the Columbiana Movie Gallery. If convicted, Brown faces up to 12 months in prison and a fine or both.
Brown, who could not be reached for comment, resigned his post April 2. He had been the city&8217;s police chief since November 2004.
