A 39-year-old Harpersville man admitted last week to sexually abusing two school-aged girls, according to the Shelby County District Attorney&8217;s office.

Samuel Douglas Harris Jr. pled guilty Wednesday to two counts of sexual abuse, one count of sodomy and one count of attempted rape. Harris also pled guilty to an unrelated felony DUI charge.

According to Assistant District Attorney Angela Dunn, Harris was indicted in May 2003 for abusing two girls, who were between the ages of 11 and 14 at the time of the abuse.

Harris entered into a &8220;blind&8221; plea deal &045;&045;&045; meaning defense lawyers and prosecutors could not agree on what sentence Harris deserved.

Instead, he will be sentenced by District Court Judge Ron Jackson on May 29. Harris faces anything from probation to life in prison for the sodomy charges, a class A felony.

Harris was previously charged with sexual abuse for molesting another girl in 1999.

However, he pled guilty to only misdemeanor charges after the 12-year-old&8217;s family decided she wouldn&8217;t testify against him, according to Dunn.
