Spring football began to wind down across the county on Thursday night, as Chelsea and Shelby County picked up wins in spring games, and Thompson fell on the road.
Chelsea traveled to Jemison Thursday and defeated the Panthers 31-13. They did so without the help of last year&8217;s star back Davin Palmer, who is no longer on the team according to head coach Wade Waldrop, but with a mixed group of scorers.
Andrew Ling started the scoring for Chelsea in the first quarter, as his 1-yard touchdown carry capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive to open the game. Garrett Salter followed with a pair of touchdown runs, as Chelsea took a 21-7 halftime lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Matt Jordan kicked a 32-yard field goal to extend the lead. Kenny Waters added a 25-yard touchdown run to round out the scoring. Quarterback Blake Yance was 5-for-6 on the night passing.
The kicking game was divided between Jordan, Alex Levinson and Ben Prast.
In other action, Shelby County dominated John Carroll, leading 24-0 before the Cavaliers added a touchdown just before the half.
Tyrone Buie and Darion Sutton each had two rushing touchdowns, including a 25-yard run by Buie. Braton Dill also tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Wood.
&8220;Braton Dill stepped in and did a heck of a job for us,&8221; SC head coach Ryan Herrin said.
Thompson fell on the road at Hewitt-Trussville 28-13.
&8220;We&8217;ve just got to continue to work and continued to improve to try to find out more about our team,&8221; Thompson head coach Brian Maner said.
The Warriors&8217; two touchdowns came on a 60-yard pass from Alan Reeves to Steven Moore, with Rusty Herring converting on the extra point, and a 4-yard carry by Montarious Drake.
Spring games continue this week with Briarwood Christian, Montevallo, Oak Mountain, Pelham and Spain Park all traveling. Calera
