CHELSEA &8212; Wayne Trucks, a 12-year assistant coach at Mountain Brook High, was recently named girls&8217; basketball coach at Chelsea High School.

&8220;In all honesty, it was difficult to try to leave Mountain Brook because of what I&8217;ve established, but this was a step in the right direction professionally and personally. It was too good to turn down,&8221; Trucks said.

During his tenure at Mountain Brook, Trucks helped lead the Lady Spartans&8217; basketball team to a regional appearance at Jacksonville State University in 1996. He then took a role as an assistant with the boys&8217; program, helping the Spartans to three regional final appearances in 2001, 2003 and 2006 and a regional semifinal in 2005.

Trucks fills the vacancy left by Christi Martin, who resigned in December to take a position at Spain Park.

&8220;Chelsea&8217;s a great position. We have a lot of talent coming back,&8221; Trucks said. &8220;Coach Martin&8217;s done a great job of establishing a foundation.&8221;
