FROM STAFF REPORTS

Spain Park&8217;s Ashley Lovell has enrolled to play women&8217;s golf at Birmingham-Southern College in 2007-08.

Lovell, who is joined at the Hilltop by Hartselle High product Taylor Kirby, captured two high school tournament titles and one Southeastern Junior Golf Tour title last spring. She also finished runner-up in another Southeastern Junior Golf Tour event.

The two are the first to join first-year head coach Casey Smith&8217;s program.

“We are very fortunate to get both of these young ladies,&8221; said Smith. &8220;They are both athletic kids and have had some success in junior golf, but I do not think we have even scratched the surface as far as their potential goes. Both kids are great kids, great students and come from great families and we are looking forward to them getting on campus in the fall. I think they are a perfect fit for BSC.”

Birmingham-Southern can only release the names of student-athletes who have officially enrolled at the school for the upcoming academic year
