Wildfire threatens new subdivision
VINCENT &8212; A brush fire labeled &8220;suspicious&8221; by local fire authorities was controlled last Wednesday before it was able to damage the new Windsor Trace subdivision and several homes off of Shelby County 83.
Harpersville fire chief Wade Holley said four departments, including Vincent, Chelsea and the state forestry commission, worked together from 11:20 a.m. to nearly 3:30 p.m. to contain the fire.
&8220;We were lucky because it was a close call,&8221; Holley said, referring to the nearby subdivision.
He said when Harpersville and Vincent arrived on the scene, flames had already consumed 30 acres. The fire grew to nearly 50 acres before it was put under control, but no damage was reported from the blaze.
