Dr. McClendon is a 5th generation resident of St. Clair County, and a lifelong member of Springville First United Methodist Church.

He is married to the former Ellen Tate of Arab and has two adult children and one grandchild. In addition to private practice, he is a Vietnam combat veteran and taught at UAB.

He retired from the practice of optometry three years ago upon assuming the duties of the Representative of House District 50 in 2002. He currently is a member of House committees on Health, Education and Sunset, and is Chair of the State Highway Safety Committee
