Oak Mountain mixes fun and learning

Tara Schultz’s 5th grade class at Oak Mountain Intermediate School especially enjoyed a recent science lab, as they made ice cream to learn about the three states of matter.
By using milk, sugar, vanilla, and rock salt, the students got a delicious lesson in the transfer of energy between a solid, liquid and gas.
“I believe that children learn best when they can apply what they’ve learned in class to real hands-on activities,” Schultz said. “You can teach a child a concept, but when they actually produce something, that’s when you see the learning take place.
