Reports of recent child abduction attempts in the Chelsea area are unsubstantiated, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The release was issued Thursday morning, four days after an 8-year-old child reported an attempted abduction in the 1000 block of Forest Lake Way in Chelsea.

The claim was ruled “unfounded” by Sheriff’s Office investigators and no other reports concerning abductions in the Chelsea area have been filed.

Sheriff Chris Curry asked citizens to be alert to their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement officials.

“Please do not dramatize or sensationalize this issue as it might cause undue panic or concern in the community,” Curry said
