U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Vestavia Hills) was recently honored by Verizon Wireless as the recipient of the 2007 HopeLine Hero Partnership Award.
The award was given to Bachus for his work in domestic violence prevention and for his support of victims of abuse in Alabama, according to a release.
He worked to win House passage of the Voucher Reform Act of 2007, which protects victims of domestic violence from being evicted from public or Section 8 housing.
Bachus was presented the HopeLine Hero plaque during the annual Chamber of Commerce Congressional Luncheon in Birmingham.
“Congressman Bachus has gone to great Lengths to deter domestic violence in our communities,” said Jeff Mango, president of the Alabama/Georgia region of Verizon Wireless.
Bachus represents Shelby County in Alabama’s sixth congressional district of the U.S. Congress
