Parks speaks to CHS students

Dr. Dale Parks from the University of Alabama at Birmingham recently visited Angela Washington’s science classes at Chelsea High School to speak about the wonders of science.

He and his assistant preformed various experiments for her classes. He provided the students with materials to do a chemical luminescence or chemical-light experiment. The result was a glowing chemical, much like a firefly or the “glow necklaces.” He also did some experiments with liquid nitrogen.

Parks showed a PowerPoint presentation about UAB, being a scientist and the research he does at UAB.

His job descriptions include: director of research administration in anesthesiology, director of wine and cardiovascular health, professor of anesthesiology, physiology, and pediatrics, School of Medicine and professor of environmental sciences and School of Public Health
