Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slike recently promoted Alabaster resident DeWayne Peevy to the position of Media Relations Director of the SEC.

Peevy, a former University of Montevallo baseball player and sports information director, began his tenure at the SEC as assistant media relations director in June 2000 and was promoted to associate director in August 2003.

His duties at the SEC office in Birmingham have been handling the day-to-day publicity of SEC men’s basketball, acting as media director for the SEC men’s basketball and women’s soccer tournaments, and recently served as editor for the “2007 SEC Football Media Guide.”

“I am extremely grateful to Commissioner Slive for this new opportunity to enhance my development in intercollegiate athletic administration,” Peevy said in a release. “The SEC is a great organization and the opportunity to work closely with national championship caliber programs is invaluable.”

Peevy also serves on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four Media Coordination Committee and the board of the United States Basketball Writers Association.

During his tenure as Montevallo SID, he received six national publication awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
