Gov. Bob Riley has appointed Jim Fuhrmeister as Shelby County Probate Judge.

Fuhrmeister fills the judgeship late vacant when his wife, Patricia Yeager Fuhrmeister, died from leukemia Feb. 9.

The announcement came down Friday afternoon from Sally Robinson, appointments director for Riley.

The appointment is effective Monday, March 3. Fuhrmeister’s term will run through 2012
