Memorial service for Gene Vanderpool, 70, of Alabaster, was held at 7 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008, at Bolton-Letlow Chapel. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

Mr. Vanderpool, who passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at a local hospital, was born on Oct. 20, 1937 in Kentucky. He was retired from Red Lobster and was working as a custodian at Oak Mountain Middle School. He was a member of Christian Life Fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Vanderpool; children, Gary (Fredia) Gabbard, Eugenia (Rocky) Vanderpool Truman, Sandra Sue (George) Dudley; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother, Edna Melton; brother, Randy Clark; sister, Cheryl Murrer and a host of other family and friends.
