Calera softball beats Tarrant

After allowing an unearned run in the first inning, Calera came back to down Tarrant 6-1 Monday. Katelyn Dean and Felicia Woodson each had a double and triple in the game for Calera. Brooke Andrews had three hits. Kayla Gains held Tarrant to one hit for the win.

In other games:

-Shelby County 11, Chilton County 3: Shelby County (2-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and didn’t look back to down Chilton County. Elizabeth Waldrop had a three-run home run at the plate and struck out seven in the circle for her first win of the season. Meredith Sellers and Blair Pierce also had three RBIs each. Shelli Chapin, Brooklyn Phillips and Cycola Buie also had two hits.

– Pelham 9, Pleasant Grove 2: Kelsey Dennis (5-1) went the distance with 11 strike outs to lead Pelham (10-2) past Pleasant Grove. Trish Zettler had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Dennis added a double and RBI.

-Gardendale 7, Spain Park 0:Spain Park allowed three runs in the first inning and then two runs in the second and fifth in a shut out loss at Gardendale.

-Springwood 20, Coosa Valley 0: Tara Gutherie had Coosa Valley’s lone hit in a shut out loss to Springwood.

-Covenant Christian 5, Evangel Christian 3: Evangel scored three runs in the fourth inning, but was unable to overcome a four-run deficit against Covenant. Ryan Hopson, Kari Wood and Julia Motes each had a hit, while Wood and Motes had an RBI. Hopson collected the loss, striking out five and allowing five runs on six hits.

-Evangel Christian 3, Covenant Christian 1: Ryan Hopson and Kati Wood scored runs in sixth inning to lift Evangel (1-1) over Covenant in game two of a doubleheader. Julia Motes had two hits and two RBIs. Lisa Armstrong (1-0) struck out five and allowed two hits in the win.
