HOOVER – Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos recognized the Greater Birmingham Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) during “Women in Construction Week” March 2-8, 2008.

Mayor Petelos signed the proclamation at the city council meeting March 3 and acknowledged the contributions of the local chapter’s community development and educational programs geared towards the advancement of women in skilled-trades careers.

The Greater Birmingham Chapter has spent the last 40 years as the voice of women in construction in the greater Birmingham area, and is continuing to promote the employment of women in the construction industry.

“Our dedication to women in the construction industry drives every member to be successful in their own careers locally and to reach out regionally and nationally to affect others in positive ways,” comments Greater Birmingham Chapter member Ginger Thompson of Gary C. Wyatt General Contractor LLC.

The local chapter, led by President Stephanie Crane of M.J. Harris Inc., meets monthly and educates its members on current happenings in the construction industry and provides a network of professional women for those wishing to advance their careers or simply become an expert in their field
