Prep recap: Wildcats swipe area game from Chelsea

CHELSEA – Shelby County senior Graham Davis hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning that helped spark a 7-6 comeback victory for the Wildcats over Chelsea in a Class 5A, Area 6 baseball game Tuesday. Justin Blakenship later drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh.
Pitcher Kevin McNorton, who allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out four, also had a home run in the second. Braten Dill, Caleb Benton, Cody Shields and Brennan Smith also had hits.
Blake Yance hit a two-run home run to lead Chelsea, while Blake Woo had one RBI. Stephen Icolano. Harris Smith, Morgan Williamson and Tyler Williamson each had a hit for Chelsea.
In other baseball games:
-Pelham 9, Thompson 2: Caleb Payne hit a solo home run to put Pelham on top, 1-0, in the second inning and later knocked in another run in the fourth, as the Panthers (21-5, 3-0) regained its lead en route to a Class 6A, Area 10 victory over Thompson. Payne was 3-for-3 from the plate and walked once. Thompson took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third with the help of an RBI by Stephen Ward. Michael Bishop drove in Branden Fernandez in the third to tie the game. Fernandez and Trae Santos each had an RBI in the game for Pelham, while catcher Ryan Roberts had a three-RBI single in the sixth. Santos collected the win, with Wes Rich collecting the save. Thompson’s Trent Franklin allowed six runs off six hits for the loss.
-Spain Park 11, Vestavia 3: Spain Park improved to 3-0 in Class 6A, Area 11 with the help of four RBIs from Hunter Walker, who had a double and home run in the win, as the Jags beat Vestavia. Kameron Kendrick each Jake Lee and Thomas Gallo each had one RBI. Josh Magette struck out six for the complete-game victory, allowing three runs on 10 hits.
-Montevallo 10, West Blocton 6: Tyler Wilson led Montevallo with two hits, including a double, and four runs scored to lead the Bulldogs past West Blocton. Dallas Lucas, Lee Walker and Patrick Baugh each had two hits. Blocton led 6-3 through four innings, before the Bulldogs took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Montevallo added three more runs in the sixth inning. Jeff Roper picked up the win on the mound.
SOFTBALL
-Pelham 3, Thompson 0: Pelham’s Trish Zettler struck out 12 Thompson batters to collect the Panthers’ 14th shutout of the season. Lindsey Price drove in all three of the Panthers’ runs on a two-out double in the third inning. Price and Zettler each had two hits. Katlin White struck out 13 in the loss for Thompson.
Vestavia 5, Oak Mountain 3:Erin Carpenter led Oak Mountain with two hits and an RBI, but Oak Mountain was unable to out battle the Vestavia Rebels in a Class 6A, Area 11 game.
Montevallo 10, Gordo 0: Shanise Hudson was 4-for-4 and had an RBI to lead Montevallo past Gordo. Kylie Stansell had two hits and four RBIs. Laci Hochstrasser (4-1) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 for the win.
-Chelsea 16, Childersburg 1: Tori Hollis had three doubles and a triple to help drive in three runs for Chelsea, as the Hornets (12-11-3) beat Childersburg. Jennifer Bradford pitched five innings for the win.
BOYS’ SOCCER
-Spain Park 2, Pelham 0: Spain Park’s Taylor Curry had six saves to shut out Pelham in a section game, as Drew Thurmond and Alex Johnson each scored goals. Pelham’s Austin Pierce had 12 saves.
