Montevallo sweeps UAH

Garrett Mims, Zac Blakney and Jeffrey Reach each picked up wins over the weekend, as the University of Montevallo swept a three-game Gulf South Conference baseball series against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
The Falcons moved into a tie for second place in the GSC East by beating UAH 8-5 Saturday and 6-3 and 5-0 Sunday in a series played at Calhoun Community College in Decatur.
Mims pitched the sixth and seventh innings of Saturday’s game to pick up the win for UM, earning his second victory of the season. The Falcons broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning when B.J. Holloway scored on an error that followed a base hit by Eric Moore. UM scored two more runs in the inning off a single by Chris Cooper to help secure the win. Zach Andrews closed out the eighth and ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Blakney struck out 10 in eight innings, while Andrews picked up the save in the first game Sunday. Holloway had three of the Falcons’ 10 hits in the game. Chris Cooper had six hits in the series, two in each game.
UM (25-17, 8-4) will host top-ranked Delta State University Tuesday at 6 p.m
