&8220;The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created spring.&8221;

Although temperatures dipped near freezing earlier this week, causing a stir as people moved to protect budding plants in landscapes across the county, spring must surely be just around the corner.
And with Spring&8217;s arrival, we are each presented with the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of Shelby County&8217;s greatest resources; whether it is taking a walk through the lovely streets of Mt. Laurel, spending a lazy day fishing on Lay Lake or taking leisurely hike through Oak Mountain State Park.
Here is just a short list of some of the ways my family likes to spend a sunny Saturday. I hope the list encourages you and those special to you to get out and make the most of some of these great aspects of Shelby County life.
uOak Mountain State Park. Perhaps Shelby County&8217;s greatest natural resource is Oak Mountain State Park with its extensive trail system, beautiful lakes and streams and abundant wildlife; the park really puts on its finest show this time of year.
uPlay Ball.
Our county has a great number of youth sports leagues that give local kids a chance to learn valuable life skills in a fun filled environment. From baseball to softball to soccer, those of us a bit too old to join one of the leagues can find a game somewhere in the county where we too can catch a bit of their excitement.
uTown of Mt Laurel.
Spend the day walking around the town of Mt Laurel&8217;s tree lined streets, beautiful architecture, and countless unique shops. You can even stop in for a first class lunch or a dip of old fashion ice cream.
uLay Lake. This beautiful lake is perhaps best known for its spotted and largemouth bass fishing, but it certainly provides countless other recreational activities well worth discovering. Lake cruising, skiing, swimming and the like are great ways to enjoy Lay Lake. But rest assured, this fishing is above reproach.
Again, this is just a short list of ways you can enjoy the many outdoor distractions to be found in our County. While we&8217;re all sent back inside to bundle up during this final cold snap of the season, we can compile a list of things to do on the bright and sunny spring day which promises to be found right around the corner.
