Students from Oak Mountain Intermediate School recently won the first Intermediate School “Battle of the Books” competition, which was held at Valley Intermediate School.

The team members were captain Liz Davis-Frost, Maggie Beck and Abigail Hartlein from Lea Smith’s fourth-grade class, fifth-grader Aly Bonville from Kelly Cooper’s class and fifth-grader Rebecca Thomas from Meredith Meadows’ class.

They won in the three-round competition of questions from 12 different books they had read and discussed.

Linda Sears, OMIS media specialist, coached the all-girl team to victory in the scholar’s bowl-type contest.

Students from Valley Intermediate School were fourth-graders Logan Burnett, Gabby Tae, Spencer Benson, fifth-graders Allysa Orr, Captain Carleigh Lloyd, Rachel Tubb, Anna Crawford and Noah Utsinger.

Valley Intermediate Media Specialist Mary Foy was their team coach
