Meadow View Elementary School third-grade teacher Donna Hermecz’s class was recently honored to have L. Shefton Riggins, M.D. pay a visit.

Riggins is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon for the Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery Unit at Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Princeton BMC hospitals.

Riggins is the grandfather of MiKaella Thomas, a student in Hermecz’s class.

Riggins taught the class about the heart, its purpose and how it works.

Each child was given the appropriate items a doctor would wear when going into surgery.
