Four locals receive UAB education awards

Cindy Cox, Mary Cooper, Jann Montgomery and Sherene Carpenter were four locals who were recently recognized by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Education program during the Student Awards Ceremony.

Cox of Alabaster received the Outstanding Alumna Award for the English as a Second Language Education program during the ceremony.

Cox currently works for the Shelby County Board of Education.

Mary Cooper of Birmingham received the Service Award for the P-6 program during the ceremony.

Cooper is currently working at Helena Elementary School.

Jann Montgomery of Chelsea received the Outstanding Education Specialist Award for the Elementary Education program during the ceremony.

Montgomery currently works at South Shades Crest Elementary School in Hoover.

Sherene Carpenter of Alabaster received the Education Leadership Outstanding Doctoral Award during the ceremony.

Carpenter is currently the principal of Martha Gaskins Middle School in Birmingham.
