St. Vincent’s Health Care System and Dominion Partners broke ground on the new Somerby at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, an active senior living community in Shelby County.

Both companies said they believe this is the first time a health and wellness facility and a senior living community will share the same campus and services.

Somerby at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen will offer four levels of care for seniors.

It will include 208 residential rental units, including 136 independent-living apartments, 48 assisted-living residences and 24 memory-care residences.

John Gorecki, a Dominion principal, said it offers seniors a wide range of services.

“This active retirement community will offer seniors multiple living options, social and leisure lifestyle opportunities and exercise options, wellness and health care on the same campus,” Gorecki said. “Seniors will have unparalleled opportunities from a lifestyle and wellness standpoint.”

St. Vincent President and CEO Curtis James said one unique feature would be that each Somerby resident would have a membership in the St. Vincent’s Health and Wellness Center and access to its wellness and medical staff.

Somerby features full-service fine dining in its Chateau Restaurant, casual dining in its Bistro Caf/, a meeting and conference center, library with computer center, chapel, movie theater, billiards and game room, beauty salon and barber shop and a convenience store. A nurse will be on duty 24/7 and the emergency response and security system is monitored 24/7
