FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lafarge North America’s Roberta Plant in Calera held a Community Appreciation day May 17.

The festivities began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m. Community members received the opportunity to take a tour through the entire plant, which covers the quarry, cement plant, control room and testing lab.

One of the more interesting rooms consisted of a robotic arm that operated machinery.

The day wasn’t all work and no play. Kids and parents alike also enjoyed inflatable slides, a clown, face painting, balloons, popcorn and snow cones.

Throughout the day families could also participate in several carnival-style activities like bowling and put-put.

Guests could even win prizes such as stuffed animals and toys.

LaFarge also brought various equipment to the tent area and had representatives set up to show of displays and explain the work the company does on a daily basis.

Lafarge North America produces and sells cement, ready-mixed concrete, gypsum wallboard, aggregates and asphalt that are used in residential, commercial and public construction projects.
