FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Southern Women’s Committee of Fifty raised more than $54,000 for various charities this year and presented checks to recipients at the organization’s May meeting held at the American Village in Montevallo.

A $25,613 donation was made to the Shelby County Resource Center. Checks were also presented to the Shelby County Foster and Adoptive Association, which will receive more than $12,000 in three installments over the next nine months.

The donation to the Shelby County Family Resource Center will support the non-profit center’s efforts to provide low-income families with free services through the coordination of community service providers.

The funds for the Shelby County Foster and Adoptive Association will support the Birthday Wish in those communities. The Birthday Wish provides gift cards to help foster children celebrate their birthdays.

The Southern Women’s Committee of Fifty is a not-for-profit organization that includes members from both Jefferson and Shelby Counties. It was established in 1997 to foster the cultural, civic, educational and charitable development in South Shelby and North Jefferson Counties.
