Aly Smotherman of Montevallo is one of three Shelby County residents to receive a received a Pride of Dixie Band scholarship from the University of North Alabama. She also received an academic excellence scolarship.

Smotherman is a graduate of Jemison High School. She is the daughter of Eddie and Sherri Smotherman. She plans to major in nursing at UNA with a minor in applied science. Smotherman also plans to complete a master’s degree in nursing and work as a nurse practitioner.

McKenzie Britnell of Columbiana and Kirsten Shaw of Wilsonville also received a Pride of Dixie Band scholarship
