Showcase of stars

Athletes from across the state are gathering in Huntsville this week for the 12th annual AHSAA All-Star Sports Week.
The week began with baseball on Monday and continues with a girls’ and boys’ soccer double header at John Hunt Park on Tuesday.
Pelham’s Hailey Glynn will be the lone representative of Shelby County in today’s softball double header.
Thursday’s events include numerous coaching clinics and the annual athletic directors and principals meeting. The day will conclude with the playing of the girls’ and boys’ basketball games and volleyball game.
Devon VonPingel of Oak Mountain and Amy Hale of Briarwood will compete for the North when they meet Pelham’s Whitney Billings and Whitney Hudson on the other side of the net. Joining Pelham’s two Whitneys on the South team will be Thompson’s Rebekah Raymond.
Friday’s football game at Alabama A&M University will conclude the week. A number of players from Shelby County are helping to lead the North, which will be coached by head coach Fred Yancey of Briarwood. Calera head coach Mac Thompson will be assisting.
