County gives park grants

The Shelby County Commission handed out its annual park and recreation grants during Monday’s meeting.

The commission awarded more than $333,000 this year to help finance eight projects all over the county.

These projects include:

-Build a new bathhouse and restroom at Oak Mountain State Park, $50,000.

-Renovate the visiting team’s locker room at Heardmont Park for the Oak Mountain High School Athletic Boosters, $50,000.

-Construct a full-size youth football field and parking area at Eagle Club at Heardmont Park for Oak Mountain Youth Football and Cheerleading, $24,374.

-Complete work on the athletic field house at Thompson High School for the Thompson Quarterback Club, $50,000.

-Make drainage improvements at Kiwanis Park and facility repairs at Girls Softball Complex and the Sports Complex in Columbiana, $29,540.

-Repair baseball fields and batting cages at City Park in Pelham, $30,000.

-Build a competition football field at the new Helena Middle School, $50,000.

-Install sidewalks, extend concession seating and make other improvements at Forest Parks in Chelsea, $50,000.
