Auburn University sophomore Kevin Patterson, a 2007 graduate of Oak Mountain High School, has been named to the Cape Cod League’s All-League Team.
Patterson, who was previously named an All-Star in the league, was selected as the designated hitter. He spent the summer with the Cotuit Kettleers and was named the team MVP at the close of the season, hitting .296 in 40 games and tallying eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and a team-leading 27 RBI, 45 hits and 69 total bases. At the conclusion of the season he was also named the Daniel J. Silva Sportsmanship Award winner, presented annually to the player who, in the opinion of the league’s umpires, demonstrates the most sportsmanlike behavior throughout the season.
Also named to team was Auburn junior Joseph Sanders. Sanders helped his Harwich Mariners squad to its first league title in 21 years, hitting .273 in 42 games, registering a team-best 11 doubles, four homers and 17 RBI. In the championship game it was Sanders who scored the game-tying run in the ninth, leading off with a triple to right before coming home on Mark Fleury’s title-clinching two-RBI single.
