After being down at the half, Coosa Valley Academy came back in the second to claim its first region win 33-28 against Lyman Ward Military Academy.

“We played pretty miserable in the first half,” said CVA head coach Steven Mackin. “We played much better the second half, we executed in the second.”

At halftime, the Rebels went in to the locker room down 28-19, but in the second half Coosa Valley held Lyman Ward to no points.

“We ended up shutting them out the second half,” Mackin said.

Though the first half had few highlights, Whit Lovelady did complete two passes for touchdowns in the second quarter. Lovelady had a total of 129 yards passing, completing 10 of 20 attempts.

Mackin said the most pivotal catch of the game was made by Casey Shellnut in the fourth quarter to keep the offensive drive going to win the game.

Next week, the Rebels will take on rival, Cornerstone Christian School for their second regional game.

Mackin said the team will work correcting mistakes this week in order to be ready Friday.
