Shelby loses first game of the season

Shelby Academy lost its first match of the season Friday on the road at Edgewood, 28-7.

The Raiders were simply beat at their own game: running the football.

Edgewood (3-0, 2-0) players stomped their way to three rushing touchdowns before the Raiders ever got on the scoreboard.

Wildcat running back Cody Lee had 146 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown. The Raiders only amassed 136 as a team.

Brandon Horton, Shelby County’s leading rusher, was held to just 54 yards for the Raiders (2-1, 1-1).

Edgewood scored on a 27-yard run in the first, followed quickly by a 1-yard sneak later in the quarter.

More points came off a 19-yard dash in the second, putting the Wildcats up three touchdowns at intermission.

Edgewood scored again off a 55-yard pass from quarterback Chris Tice in the third quarter.

Shelby finally got on the board with a 33-yard touchdown run by Horton later in the quarter.

Neither team scored in the fourth.

Chad King lead Shelby with 62 yards on 8 carries, while quarterback Cody Jones was 2- of-7 passing for 46 yards.

Chase Cleveland had a team-high 12 tackles and one assist on defense. King had nine tackles, one assist and an interception.
