Several Shelby County artists will be part of a unique afternoon that benefits Hannah Home Shelby.

The shelter provides services and skills for women and youth seeking refuge or help from abuse, homelessness and other difficult circumstances helping them to ultimately become healthy, productive members of society.

The 10th–annual Deerwood Art By the Lake Show and Sale featuring more than 60 artists will be held Sunday, Sept. 21 from noon–5 pm.

Shelby County artists include painter Ahmad Austin, who captures the movement and expressions of jazz music in energetic images and Kris Golden, who produces hand-built clay sculptures.

Another clay artisan, Deb Paradise, will show a series of her “Blessings Houses,” in which each represent an energy that is stamped into the clay as a specific word, such as harmony, grace or joy.

Photographer Michael Mixon will present his “The Beauty of Alabama Series,” showcasing images of the Birmingham area, while artist Deborah Ballogg will show colorful fused glass vases, bowls and sculptures.

The venue, near Harpersville, will offer an unusual progressive experience beginning with pontoon boat transportation from the parking area to artist locations.

Live jazz music by the Legendary Pineapple Skinners will be heard throughout the area and tables will be provided for enjoying chicken or catfish lunch baskets by Whiskers.

The finale will feature fresh pastry desserts provided by Jefferson State Culinary Hospitality Program and specialty coffees made available by Royal Cup.

The $20 per person minimum donation will help Hannah Home Shelby continue to serve women and children in need for another year.

Each exhibiting artist also contributes 20 percent of sales.

Proceeds from this fundraiser over the years have contributed to a new shelter where services are provided in a Christ-centered environment.
