After getting behind by two touchdowns in the first quarter, Montevallo came back to beat B.B. Comer, 35-21.

“I was disappointed that we didn’t come out from the get-go,” said head coach Jim King. “We got down 13 to zero, and that really disappointed me.”

Though King was let down by the slow start in the first quarter, the Bulldogs quickly got it together in the second quarter, putting two touchdowns on the board and going in with the lead at the half.

“We could have easily shut down once we got down, and it is good that we didn’t,” King said.

The Tigers, who had 43 rushes for 259 yards, scored from a 9-yard carry with 6:15 left in the first quarter to put them up 7-0 against the Bulldogs. After an interception with 5:22 left in the first, B.B. Comer was able to add another six points to their lead from a 14-yard touchdown.

The next offensive drive for the Bulldogs had an answer, though, with Kevin Callender carrying it 5-yards into the end zone to shorten the Tigers’ lead to 7 points.

A fake punt on fourth down allowed Brandon Lilly to gain the first downt hat would lead to the Bulldogs’ second touchdown with an 8-yard carry from Callender with 3:23 left in the half. Callendar, who had 9 completions of 16 attempts with only one interception, then found Dajuan Fulgham for a pass to quench the two-point conversion and the lead at the half.

Early in the third, the Tigers went up 21-14 from a 3-yard run, but the Bulldogs came back when Callender found Fulgham for a 38-yard touchdown pass to tie the score 21-21.

To put the Bulldogs back in the lead, Callender, who had 24 rushes for 101-yards during the game, carried the ball 4-yards for the Bulldogs’ fourth touchdown. Late in the fourth, the Bulldogs furthered their lead with a 1-yard touchdown run by Callender, capping the night with a score of 35-21.

The Bulldogs had a total 34 rushes for 216 yards and were able to keep the Tigers to 42 yards and two first downs in the second half. Montevallo will go on the road next week to take on West Blocton.
