Several stores in the Colonial Promenade South are under lockdown after a suspicious briefcase was found in the Best Buy parking lot.

The unattended briefcase was found around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police are diverting traffic away from the area and not allowing customers or employees to leave nearby stores.

A bomb squad blew the briefcase up around 6:30 p.m.

Hoover police and Shelby County sheriff’s deputies are also on the scene.
