Montevallo lively with fall events

October and November calendars are jam-packed with entertaining Montevallo events.

Parades, ball games, concerts, festivals, Halloween parties and plays are just a few of the exciting happenings.

The Fire Prevention Parade will be Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.

“If it’s not the biggest fire prevention parade in Alabama, it’s one of the biggest,” exclaimed Fire Chief Bill Reid. “It’s big and loud!”

He also explained that this year’s is the 33rd of these annual parades.

Following the parade, the Rotary Club’s annual Duck Race and the elementary school’s Fall Frolic will both be held in Orr Park. There will be many activities including a health fair, moon bounces, slides, games, food and live entertainment.

The Montevallo Bulldogs play their last home games Oct. 17 against Montgomery Academy and Oct. 24 against Trinity.

Music lovers will enjoy concerts by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra Oct. 5 and Nov. 9 at Palmer Hall. The University of Montevallo choral concert is scheduled for Oct. 26 and the chorus and chamber singers on Nov. 17. The UM wind ensemble concert is Oct. 21 and the jazz ensemble Nov. 13.

All kinds of pets will convene at Orr Park Oct. 25 for the Park and Recreation Board’s Critters by the Creek festival. There will be competitions, prizes and demonstrations.

Theatre lovers should mark their calendars for The Main Street Players’ production of “Blithe Spirit” Oct. 24-26 at the library theatre, and for HAIR, a UM musical production, Nov. 20-22 and 24-25.

Area children are looking forward to the downtown trick or treating after school Oct.31 that will be preceded Oct. 30, with a tour of the “haunted” Parnell library with favorite book characters.
