Evangel clinches region

The Evangel Lightning clinched the region Friday with a dominating performance over Ballard, 60-20.
The Lightning opened a 30-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
After the dominating first quarter, the Lightining added 16 more points in the second quarter and 14 in the third quarter.
Offensively for the Lightning (7-1, 4-0), Jakan Sylestine had 91 yards and two touchdowns on four carries, including a 65-yard touchdown run. Hunter Burridge accounted for three touchdowns on a run, reception and a punt return. Burridge rushed seven times for 84 yards.
Henry Foster, who left last week’s game with a concussion, also accounted for three touchdowns with one coming on the ground and two through the air.
Stephen Davis had two receiving touchdowns and Roecker Melick threw for one.
Defensively for Evangel, Luke Webb had six tackles, as did Collin Hipps. Hipps also had two sacks in the win.
The Lightning allowed just five first downs in the game, including zero in the first half.
Evangel returns to action Friday they travel to Phenix City to take on Golden Acres. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
