The Montevallo Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing at City Hall on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. to receive input on the city’s proposed comprehensive plan.

The 27-page plan, which was posted on the city’s Web site Thursday, “illustrates and provides an overall strategy for how the city intends to grow over time.”

Divided into three sections, the plan outlines the city’s top five opportunities — tourism development, outdoor recreational events, neighborhood and business revitalization, planned growth and educational outreach.

The plan also lists 16 goals to achieve the five opportunities. Among those goals are the promotion of a diverse range and supply of housing types, densities and affordability, a partnership with the University of Montevallo to grow job opportunities, the establishment of an efficient and environmentally sound transportation system and the preservation of natural areas and open spaces.

The plan can be accessed at the city’s Web site, www.cityofmontevallo.com, under the headings “Planning and Zoning” and “Postings.”
