University of Montevallo forward Nathaniel Foster and goalkeeper David Esser were named Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week and Defender of the Week, respectively. Foster scored three goals and made two assists in the two game week while Esser contributed on a pair of shutouts.

Foster garners his second GSC Player of the Week accolade this season, netting a hat trick last week. The sophomore from Brampton, Ontario, Canada scored three goals in the first 21 minutes against Shorter College on Oct. 27 and assisted on the fourth, leading the Falcons to victory, 4-0. Foster also chipped in an assist in Friday’s match against West Florida as Montevallo defeated the Argos for the first time in the regular season since 1999, 2-0.

Esser is awarded his first career GSC Defender of the Week laurel after holding opponents scoreless for 153 minutes. The former Oak Mountain High School keeper played in just over 63 minutes of the Falcons’ shutout of Shorter, stopping all three

shots he faced. The sophomore recorded his sixth shutout of the season and notching three saves against West Florida. It was only the second time an opponent has blanked the Argos this year.

Foster, Esser and the rest of the Falcons will return to action Friday at 7 p.m. as they take on Harding University in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Championships.
