Falcons dominate Tuskegee on Senior Night

The University of Montevallo volleyball team (20-17) honored its two seniors Thursday before the match against Tuskegee University (8-15). The team then went out and held Tuskegee to under 10 points in each of the three sets winning 3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-6). Seniors Monika Tortorici and Lauren Tortorici, both formerly of Oak Mountain High School, had a pretty easy send-off as Monika had six kills and four blocks while twin sister Lauren had four kills and six service aces.

It was a total team effort with no Falcon having over nine kills and the team hitting a tremendous .477 for the match. Junior Katy Handrick led all scorers with nine kills while classmate Carson Anderson had seven. Junior Katie Johnson and Handrick each had three service aces to go with Lauren Tortorici’s six.

Freshman Anna Garrison and junior Joy Peschman split time at setter picking up 13 and 18 assists, respectively.

The Falcons held Tuskegee to a -.263 hitting percentage and only allowed six kills all match.

The Falcons used everyone off the bench and cruised to the 3-0 win heading in to the conference tournament.

The Falcons will play their first conference tournament match in five years, Friday Nov. 15.
