Warriors take down Spain Park

After a tight first quarter, Thompson took a six-point lead into halftime and ran away in the fourth quarter Tuesday to beat Spain Park, 78-56.

The Warriors outscored the Jaguars 32-14 in the final quarter to pull away from a five-point lead and win their second game of the season. Sideeq Cooper scored 32 points in the game and collected seven assists, while Hakeem Mitchell and point guard Zach Smith had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Matthew Bowerman led Spain Park with 19 and Arthur Strauss had 15 points.

In other boys’ games:

-SHELBY CO. 60, VINCENT 46 For the second-straight meeting, Shelby County came from behind to beat Vincent. After trailing 26-24 at halftime, the Wildcats outscored the Yellow Jackets by 16 points in the second half. Tae Lewis and Darion Sutton posted double-doubles to lead the Wildcats, as Lewis scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Sutton had 14 points and 10 boards. Daniel Watkins had 13 points. Vincent was led by B.J. Hamilton’s 12 points and Keyon Wallace had 10.

-CHELSEA 47, PELHAM 20: Chelsea pulled away from Pelham in the second quarter to take a 17-10 lead at halftime. The lead continued to grow in the second half. Jonathan Antonetti led the Hornets with 10 points, while Pelham was led by point guard Austin Pierce’s four points.

-BRIARWOOD 50, SYLACAUGA 47: Briarwood won its’ fourth straight game with the help of six late free throws. Johnny Balik led the Lions with 20 points, while Carter Tanner had 15. Matt Outlaw led in rebounds with nine.

-OAK MTN. 62, JOHN CARROLL: Ronnie Mack led Oak Mountain 24 points to lead the Eagles past John Carroll.

-CALERA 66, PELL CITY 54: Two cousins led the way Tuesday night, as Deondre Haynes and DeMarcus Dowdell each scored 22 to supply half of Calera’s offense. Sophomore Brandon Wells added 17 points. T.C. Moss paced Pell City with 25 points.

-INDIAN SPRINGS 37, OAK GROVE 34: Charlie Simpson’s free throws late in the game lifted Springs past Oak Grove. Colvy Marks led Indian Springs with 10 points.

-SHELBY ACADEMY 68, SOUTH MONTGOMERY 24:Chad King led Shelby Academy with 22 points, while Sean Gilbert add 21 to improve to 2-0. The Raiders posted a 30-0 shutout in the first quarter.

-CORNERSTONE 60, LIGHTHOUSE 52:J.V. McKinney scored 28 points to lead Cornerstone to victory in its season opener. The former Vincent Yellow Jackey stole the ball and scored the first four possessions of the game, dunking three times and laying up once. Kendall Moore chipped in 17 points, while Stephen Bulger had 12.
