Malone named UM commencement speaker

Mike Malone, former executive director of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, will be the fall commencement speaker at the University of Montevallo. The ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
Malone, a retired educator, earned his bachelor’s degree from UM in 1969. He went on to earn master’s degrees from Old Dominion University and UAB, and a doctorate degree from the University of Alabama.
Malone has served as president of Troy State University-Dothan, vice chancellor of the Troy State University System, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at Western Carolina University and director of admissions at Old Dominion University.
Today, Malone is a trustee for both the National College Board and the Alabama Prepaid Affordable College Tuition program.
Malone has held professorships at various higher education institutions, and served as a youthful offender counselor early in his career.
