Colonial Bank’s Pelham branch this month will host Cell Phones For Soldiers, a drive to collect old cell phones to help U.S. troops call home.

Anyone with old cell phones, batteries or chargers is encouraged to bring their donations to the bank at 2998 Pelham Pkwy. from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Branch Manager Jaime Harkins said the bank has collected 26 phones thus far, and hopes to collect more by month’s end.

Cell Phones For Soldiers wants to turn old cell phones into more than 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for troops deployed overseas this year. The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones For Soldiers for each donated phone. The money buys an hour of talk time for soldiers abroad.
