Helena city council dates changing

The Helena City Council has changed their meeting dates to the second and fourth Mondays of every month.

Originally, meetings were on the first and third Mondays of the month.

The dates were changed because council member Katherine Ennis, who is the planning director for the city of Northport, is required to attend Northport city council meetings. Those meetings are also on the first and third Mondays of every month.

Helena council member Cris Nelson said once the Helena council found out about the conflict, changing meeting dates was an easy decision to make.

“She came to us and asked if we would have a problem alternating days, and all of us said that wasn’t a problem,” Nelson said.

The Helena council unanimously voted to make the change at the Jan. 5 meeting. The change is effective immediately, so the next Helena City Council meeting will be Jan. 26, the fourth Monday of the month.

The Helena City Council meetings will be at 6 p.m., the same time they were before.

Nelson said the community seems to have adjusted to the changed meeting dates.

“We posted it immediately on the city Web site, and there’s not been any feedback one way or another to my knowledge,” she said.
