Funeral service for Cynthia Lynn Gentle, age 37, of Sterrett, was Jan. 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at North Shelby Baptist Church. The body laid in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Harpersville Cemetery. The Rev. Alan Murphy officiated. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, from 5:30-8 p.m. at North Shelby Baptist Church.
Gentle, who passed away Jan. 16, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Hospital after an extended illness, was born in Decatur, Feb. 13, 1971, but grew up in Birmingham and attended Birmingham schools. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she met her husband, Dennis L. Gentle. Since the day she was born, she brought love, laughter and joy to the world. She was hard working and professionally driven, receiving many promotions and awards, working with Intergraph, Vulcan Materials Corp., Bellsouth and Southern Progress. But her family and friends were true joy and passion and if asked to help, she never said no, doing everything possible to make sure that her children have a wonderful childhood and great start in life. A member of North Shelby Baptist Church, she was able to witness the baptism of her oldest son just months before her departure.
She leaves to cherish many fond memories of her husband, Dennis, and two children, Dalton and Taylor; grandmother, Faye Erwin; mother, Linda Pickard; brother, Allen Pickard and several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and in-laws that love her as their own.
The family would also like to recognize extended family, caregivers past and present and all neighbors and friends. Thank you for the care and love that was so thoughtfully given. She will be missed by all and will one day be reunited with her family in heaven. Flowers are welcome or honorary donations may be made to the Amelia Center.
