Columbiana police officer recovering at home

A Columbiana police officer has been released from the hospital after being shot while on duty Thursday.

Officer Jeff Bowers is now recovering at home. Bowers was shot shortly after 3 a.m. while responding to a call on Downing Drive, which is off Egg and Butter Road. The bullet grazed Bower’s hip, according to Columbiana Mayor Allan Lowe. Bowers was released from Shelby Baptist Medical Center later that morning.

Two suspects are being held for questioning, Lowe said. Attempted murder charges have been filed against one of the two suspects. The suspects’ names have not yet been released.
